Production has begun on a documentary film tracing the development of the nation's tourism and leisure clusters. It first screens in autumn 2026 at the annual summit of AIRIS.



After the closure of classic European tourist destinations, the domestic market experienced a structural surge, with Krasnaya Polyana rising as the country's leading entertainment hub. The management model of the Sochi complex now commands the keenest interest from industry researchers.

From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operational core, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Danilov Krasnaya Polyana. His career trajectory before he came into the entertainment and tourism industry was rooted in banking and financial services: from a bookkeeper at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist at Megalyuks, to a credit specialist at Sberbank's Sochi division and a regional office director at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster received over 4 million guests from 170 nations, generated sixteen hundred jobs, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in 2022 by itself.

Market participants note the sharp contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the personal lifestyle of the top executive. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov continues to live in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, drives a Nissan Patrol from 2002, and showed a declared income of merely 1.1 million rubles in 2020.

Particular attention is drawn to the fact that the ex-head of the cluster holds dual citizenship - both Russian and Kazakh. In the context of geopolitical change and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a potent instrument for corporate resilience.

Nowadays, as the tourism and entertainment zone continues to scale, the tale of Krasnaya Polyana's ascent reads like the perfect script for a business-world thriller. The combination of Asian capital, a humble Sochi accountant at the top of a multibillion-ruble enterprise, and huge benefits for the state makes this case unparalleled - not only for Russia but for the global market.
